NOTES ON THE ABOVE

The Latin flavour, but more especially Tijuana, was certainly flavour of the month—if not for a few years—back in 1966 and onwards. Herb Alpert had helped to introduce the Mexican sound of Tijuana brass and popularise it to the rest of the western world, and indeed his hits had become big. That kind of paved the way for everyone else to follow. So hot on the heels you had Stanley Black, Geoff Love, The Living Brass, Chaquito and his Orchestra, etc., all keen to show that they too could make the same sound exciting. And for a time it was, but only for a time. As this sample shows, it was already being done to death, and there are lots more albums floating around out there that could be included here which came out around the same time. This, if you like, is just a taste, a Tijuana taster.
