NOTES ON THE ABOVE

A fine selection of covers featuring various ensembles going under the name of Strings (101 Strings, 1000 Strings, Avenue Strings, etc.) doing renditions of well known songs. Although they are essentially cover albums akin to our old faves Top of the Pops and Hot Hits, at least this lot display a bit more class, with style being pre-eminent. Such is the quality of Million Seller Hits of '69 that the photo of the girl was re-used on the cover of a recent release (see cover), an obvious attempt to hark back to those days when bossa nova was in full swing. But also worth mentioning is the girl on the cover of Silver Strings' Music for the Small Hours, with a rather—for its time—risqué nipple showing. Quite surprising since this was released mid-to-late sixties. But my favourite has to be the cover to Golden Strings Play Golden Standards. The girl looks like a mannequin: I've seen more real-looking women coming out of the Real Doll factory!
