Like its rivals, the Solid Gold franchise was responsible for some of the trashiest covers to hit the shelves in the seventies and eighties. As can be testified by the examples above, a dire lack of imagination went into these covers. They can either be seen as rip-offs of the Top of the Pops formulaic covers or paying them homage. Which ever way you look at it they could have done better. The records inside aren't much cop either, being terrible cover versions that even put the Tops series to shame.
