Free AJ Small Projects sustainability webinar

Hear from the winners of AJ Small Projects 2024 at a free lunchtime webinar on 19 September, focused on incorporating sustainable principles into lower-budget architecture

Joining the discussion will be this year’s overall Small Projects winner Takeshi Hayatsu of Hayatsu Architects; the People’s Choice winner Kate Nicklin of Commonbond Studio; and Sustainability Award winner Jack Mutton of Topo Architects. The webinar will be chaired by the AJ’s Rob Wilson.

Each of the three architects will be talk about their winning project. This will be followed by a short panel discussion considering the importance of environmental and social sustainability in the success of projects on smaller budgets.

Hayatsu will talk about his project for Grizedale Arts – The Farmer’s Arms Cold Food Store – which adapted traditional Japanese building techniques using locally sourced materials. Mutton will discuss his light touch retrofit of a former office building in Newcastle for a local arts charity, and Nicklin will present her practice’s self-built hempcrete architecture studio in south-east London.
