This category celebrates individuals who are influential in promoting sustainable practices either within their own organisations, beyond, or both.
Hawkins\Brown sustainability lead Louisa Bowles, who won the AJ100 Sustainability Champion award in 2022, is shortlisted again. As well as her role at the practice, She is part of the Embodied Carbon task group for the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, and is involved in many other industry initiatives. These include two years on the NLA Net Zero Expert panel, whose work included proposals for a Carbon Review Panel and Demolition Impact Assessment policy for London.
Rachael Owens, head of sustainability at Buckley Gray Yeoman, leads the practice’s response to sustainable and regenerative design. She is also co-director with Sara Edmonds of the National Retrofit Hub, a non-profit collaborative organisation. The hub is currently working on an online Knowledge Centre resource for retrofit professionals.
Loreana Padron has been head of sustainability at ECD Architects since 2016. As well as running the practice’s Sustainability Working Group, she is Editor of the upcoming Retrofit Designer course for the Retrofit Academy. She volunteers for LETI and ACAN and was co-author of the LETI Climate Emergency Retrofit Guide.
At Perkins&Will, sustainable design advisor Cesar Herrera has refined the design process at the practice to incorporate more aspects around health and wellbeing, whether within small interior projects or large scale masterplan. His expertise includes native planting, migratory patterns of fauna, and resource management.
The winners of all the AJ100 awards will be announced in June.
