AJ100 Sustainability Initiative of the Year 2024 shortlist revealed

The AJ can reveal the four practices in the running for the AJ100 Sustainability Initiative of the Year 2024 award

Chetwoods has been shortlisted for its Baytree Nuneaton project, one of the first uses of timber in a large-scale industrial and logistics setting in the UK. The practice has used the project and associated research and events to showcase the potential of timber in this sector.

Hawkins\Brown’s St Mary's Voluntary Catholic Academy in Derby is the first completed school in the UK to meet the Department for Education’s Gen Zero specification. Energy demand was minimised using passive design principles, and all energy needs are met through rooftop PVs.

Levitt Bernstein was part of the multi-disciplinary team on Delivering Net Zero, an evidence-based study commissioned by 18 London boroughs. The results demonstrated how industry net zero operational energy targets such as those defined by LETI and RIBA can be used to deliver net zero in operation, and why they are more effective than Building Regulation Part L-based metrics.

Perkins&Will completes the shortlist, chosen for its material re-use during the circular fit-out of offices for legal client Squire Patton Boggs. Construction elements were treated as a materials bank, with 80 per cent re-use of overall building components.

The winners of all the AJ100 awards will be announced in June.
