| NOTES ON THE ABOVE | ||||
|
Another alternative to the enormously popular Top of the Pops series, 12 Tops-Today's Pop Hits covered the same ground by producing pale imitations of the original songs, and even contained the occasional track borrowed from the Hot Hits series. You can even hear session singers like Tina Charles covering for other more major stars before they became stars in their own right. The series ran from 1972 to 1975 and up to 30 volumes. Confusingly, there appear to be two volume 6's in this series, both of which came out the same year. God knows why... Apart from that the endless flow of cheap LPs like these pretty much brought the Golden Age to an end. It was truly a case of over-saturation. The girl sitting astride a moped on the cover of volume 14 has a severely short skirt on and legs open wide to the camera. I am still trying to work out if they've deliberately blacked out what could have been a pleasingly revealing crutch shot, but cannot find my magnifying glass to verify it. The girl on the cover of volume 16 can also be found on a cover of the Country Greats series which you'll find in the Country & Western page, which see. The lovely Penny Irving on volume 15 you'll find splashed throughout these pages as she did a lot of modelling in the early seventies. To view larger images use the Database |
